Donald Trump, You’ve Made Our Future Uncertain

Donald Trump

It’s early in the morning on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 and I am still avidly watching the 2016 United States election results. I cannot believe what I am seeing. The very last of the poll results have not been recorded, but Donald Trump is currently winning.

He’s actually winning! How could we, as Americans, let this happen? What went wrong? Donald Trump has directly targeted and insulted Latinos, Muslims, African Americans, the LGBTQ community, the disabled, women, war veterans, and many other marginalized groups.

Immigrants are the foundation of this country and Donald Trump has ridiculed them to a great extent. I am shocked and disappointed in our great nation for supporting a man as bizarre as him. This outlandish, unexperienced man will actually be our next president, which is something I cannot wrap my head around.

For the first time since I became a U.S. citizen, I am scared for future of United States of America. I have lived, as a Pakistani-Muslim-American, through the tragedy of September 11 and numerous mass shootings in America. I have unfortunately witnessed the rise of terrorism and growing Islamophobia around the world.

However, I can seriously say that I had more hope for the future of this country then, than I do now. Our country stood together in those hard times and now it has been torn apart and divided by hateful rhetoric, originating from an unqualified man who has never served in our American government or military.

Donald Trump represents everything that is wrong in our world: xenophobia, greed, narcissism, authoritarianism, and misogyny. He might have been elected as the next President of the United States of America, but he will never have my admiration.

Nonetheless, I have no faith in Trump, but I have faith in America. We the people voted Trump into presidency and now we must face the consequences. We must work together to protect the groups that Trump has targeted and ensure their rights are not taken away.

We cannot let one radical president dismantle everything this country has worked so hard for.

As one of our founding fathers, Samuel Adams, said, “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.
